Credit score is an important number if you are planning to borrow money for any reason. For instance, you may want to take out a mortgage to buy your first home. You can get your free credit score by visiting a site called Credit Karma.

If you already know your score and want to improve it, Moolanomy has a good article that shows you various ways to improve your FICO score.

Economic Crisis and Greed

February 10th, 2009

Do you believe that the current global economic crisis is the result of greed? This is what suggested by the author of Moolanomy and I do like his simplistic explanation.  However, after reading the huge amount of comments in that article, it seems that many people believe that the crisis is acutally the result of the legislature passed by the Clinton’s administration.

What’s your thought on this? Why are we in this mess?

Obama’s 401k Plan

I just came across this article about Obama’s proposed changes to 401k plan.  I am wondering when Obama will enact his proposed changes into law.  Like Pinyo, I am wondering if this will help or hurt our economy and finances.  There are a lot of good points made by his readers about this will be very helpful for some people, particularly the ones that are deep in debt and paying a lot of interest. Hopefully, this will works out for the better.

In any case, I am glad that he’s in the office now.

The Wallet has an article with interesting tidbits on Warren Buffett’s personal finances. Did you know that he was a victim of identify theft, practices frugality and cashes $20 checks? It’s things like this that keeps me going.  Frugality is not just for the poor, but it’s for everybody.  It’s one of the best way to wealth.

401(k) and Vanguard Target Retirement Funds

January 22nd, 2009

I just increased my 401(k) contribution for 2009. Basically, I decided to put my tiny 1% salary increase toward my retirement. I wish I am one of the lucky few who regularly hit the 401(k) contribution limit.  It would be super nice if I can save that kind of money each year.

Also, I noticed that my company just gave us the option of investing in Vanguard Target Retirement Funds. I have been looking into these and I think invest in one of the target-date funds is a good choice for someone like me.

Welcome to Budgetary!

Welcome to Budgetary.  You can call me Budgetary, or Bud for short.  Anyway, I hoping to improve my financial situation significantly this year, and I am starting this blog to keep me on track.  I don’t know what exactly I am going to write about yet or where to begin, but I have been looking at other personal finance blogs to get some ideas.

One thing I definitely want to do this year is learn how to invest in the stock market.  I am not an expert, but with all the price drops this past year, this must be a good time to buy.  You know, like getting a discount at the grocery store.

Hope fully, I’ll be able to keep this blog up to date and keep you posted on how I’m doing.
